Boston Acoustics VS Series Speaker System:

Conclusion
The VS Series' shape isn't all that different than the Klipsch Icon X Series I reviewed a few months ago, but the Boston and Klipsch systems are very different animals. The Icon cabinets are fabricated from extruded aluminum, the towers feature built-in power amplifiers, and the horn-loaded tweeters lack the VS Series' upper-treble refinement. In fact, the entire VS Series system was easier to listen to.

The VS system I reviewed is an awfully impressive, lifestyle-oriented satellite/subwoofer system for $4600. Then again, if I were looking for an excuse to spend more, I'd move up to the VS 336 towers ($1700 each), VS 325c center speaker ($900), and a pair of VS 260 bookshelf speakers ($700 each) for use as surrounds. The VPS 210 subwoofer would complete the system, which would set you back $7400.

Alternatively, you could use VS 224s for all channels, and that might be a better, more coherent way to go than the reviewed system. That, or opt for the VS 240 or VS 260 as front and surround speakers, with a VS 224 as a center. In any event, I have no doubt that you'll really enjoy their sound. Oh, and if it matters to you, they'll look terrific, too.

Highs
Exquisite finish, stunning design
Excellent satellite/subwoofer matching
Rich tonal balance, with excellent resolution of fine detail

Lows
The VS 224's table stands aren't large enough to prevent accidental tip-overs
