Oppo BDP-83 Universal Disc Player:
Since this player was announced last year at CEDIA, I've been eagerly anticipating its arrival. In fact, I have quite a few friends who wanted to get into Blu-ray, and I advised them to wait until Oppo released its player before taking the leap. I can now assure them—and you—that it was more than worth the wait. The BDP-83 is the complete package—it rivals the PS3 in speed, it plays Blu-ray discs flawlessly with a DVD-like experience, it offers outstanding upconversion of DVDs, and it even plays SACD and DVD-A discs. Even better, it lists for only $500, making it an incredible value. The Oppo BDP-83 truly is the ultimate Blu-ray player, and it's found a permanent home in my reference system.
