Measurements

The NAD T 773's 2-channel analog frequency response, left channel, CD in to speaker out, measured –0.87dB at 10Hz, –0.27dB at 20Hz, –0.42dB at 20kHz, and –2.3dB at 50kHz. The response from the multichannel analog bypass input to the speaker output, left channel measured, was the same as the CD input at low frequencies, and –0.72dB at 50kHz.

The Dolby Digital response, optical input to speaker output, left channel measured, was –0.51dB at 20Hz (–0.48dB, center channel) and –0.78dB at 20kHz (–0.13dB, center channel). With the surround left channel set to Small and the crossover frequency set to 80Hz, the response at the left speaker output was –3dB at 81Hz, –6dB at 61Hz, and –0.06dB at 20kHz. The line output from the LFE channel, relative to the response at 40Hz, was +0.04dB at 20Hz, –3dB at 67Hz, and –6dB at 83Hz.

The T 773's gain, CD in to speaker out, with its level control set to +7, measured 28.4dB. The A-weighted signal/noise ratio measured –89.4dB at 2.83V output into 8ohms. THD+noise at 2.83V into 8ohm measured 0.036% at 20Hz, 0.035% at 1kHz, and 0.032% at 20kHz. The THD+noise was insignificantly higher at the same output into 4ohms (0.036%, the largest deviation, at 20kHz).

With two channels driven, the NAD's power output at clipping (1% THD+noise) measured 114W per channel at 1kHz into 8ohm, and 179Wpc into 4ohm (left channel measured). With all seven channels operating, the left channel measured to the nearest watt into 8ohm, the NAD clipped at 103Wpc at 20Hz (120Wpc into 4ohms) and 108Wpc at 1kHz (131Wpc into 4ohms).—Thomas J.
