Channel Islands Audio D-200 Amplifier: First Look
These little switch mode monoblock amps from Channel Islands Audio have caused quite a sensation online and in print reviews (Wes Philips of our sister publication Stereophile was very enthusiastic about CI's less powerful D-100, which uses similar technology). Being a home theater pub we don't pimp a lot of monoblocks around here, but the CI amps are so small and reasonably prices the idea of using five of them to power a home theater isn't so ludicrous. But don't let the small size fool you. Although these amps are just 6.25" wide, 5.5" tall and 8" deep, each D-200 cranks out 200-watts per into 8 ohms and runs cool to the touch thanks to their 90% efficiency switch mode operation. An intriguing, compact and affordable design- maybe these are the monoblocks make sense for home theater. Available for sale online now, with 30-day money back guarantee.
